Meet Liz Nameth, the Lady Behind the Business
Welcome to Christian Bridal Fair! I’m Liz Nameth and I live in Rhinelander – a small town surrounded by woods in northern Wisconsin. My husband, son, cat and I live in a smallish house with a large lot in the city limits. Regular visitors to our yard include cardinals, deer, squirrels, chipmunks, an occasional black bear and a very large owl! We’re about three hours northwest of the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field in Green Bay (GO PACK!) and about an hour south of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We get to 25 below zero in January, we have snow on the ground for five to six months out of the year and we have summers where it never gets above 90. I love the snow, I love the woods and I love having four different seasons. I live in paradise and I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
I have known I was going to own a business since I was 8 years old. In high school, I took every business class my school offered. After graduating, I worked in the car business for 15 years. Working my way up to office manager, I learned a lot about the inner works of small businesses.
After getting married and becoming a Christian, the Lord interrupted my career plans and I spent 6 wonderful years as a home school mom. When my marriage ended, I found myself in a position I never thought I’d be – a “displaced homemaker.” Nobody wanted a middle-aged woman who had been out of the workforce for six years. I was stuck in a low paying job. All of my prior business experience was useless. It was a shock, to say the least.
I started praying for guidance. The Lord truly works in mysterious ways. Instead of answering my prayer directly, I fell head over heels in love with the man of my dreams. When we decided to get married, our financial resources were VERY limited but I didn’t let that stop me from having my dream wedding – a candlelight ceremony with Cinderella gown and dinner reception for 120. When it was all said and done, I spent just under $2,300 for my wedding – $3,800 including our rings and a week-long honeymoon.
In the weeks following the wedding, I was amazed at the feedback from my guests. Most had no idea I made all the decorations, flowers and invitations. So many people told me I should go into wedding planning and floral design as a career, I finally decided they were right.
While taking the classes, I realized I didn’t want to be a traditional wedding consultant. Praying again for guidance, I found myself drawn to the internet. I spent a lot of time studying internet based businesses. I was excited to learn that my dream of a small shop was possible online. More than possible. My small town does not offer a large enough market to support the highly focused niche I wanted to pursue – a business helping other Christians have affordable, beautiful, Christ-centered weddings.
And that is how Christian Bridal Fair was born.
